Norspace achieves Technology Flow Qualification status for SAW devices

Horten, Norway, 8 September 2011 – Norspace has made its way to the European ESCC list of Technology Flow Qualification Manufacturers. Norspace is the first and so far sole manufacturer in Europe to qualify its Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Device Manufacturing for Space Application. SAW filter types covered by the Qualification include transversal band pass filters, resonator filters, notch filters and low loss impedance element filters operating in the frequency range from 10MHz up to 4GHz. Corresponding package types for the different filters constitute an integral part of the Qualification.
The Technology Flow Qualification means that Norspace can offer its customers SAW filters without having to include full Lot Acceptance Testing, meaning a cost saving to the customers. Norspace is a regular supplier of SAW filters to numerous customers world wide, both as stand-alone components and as a key building block in most of the equipment developed and supplied by Norspace.
The Qualification is the result of a three-year long effort under an R&T contract awarded by ESA in 2008.
“The Qualification further strengthens Norspace’s position as global leader in SAW technology for space applications”, says Norspace Chief Executive Sverre Bisgaard. Norspace has already supplied nine thousand SAW devices in orbit in over 130 satellites, which have accumulated 655 million fault-free operating hours, equalling almost 75 thousand years.
