Major Milestone for Singapore
08.02.2011
The VTIS21 project in Singapore reached a major milestone on December 22, 2010 with the completion of the Site Acceptance Test (SAT). The SAT ran for over five weeks and included more than eleven remote sites and the brand new VTS Centre called P3.
Front and centre in the SAT was the new C-Scope Operator Client, which is the Kongsberg Norcontrol IT's 7th Generation VTS Operator Client.
"We faced many challenges including maintaining the current VTS network with uninterrupted operations while building a new, fully redundant network," says Fred Fredriksen, VTIS21 Project Manager for KNC. "We have also delivered a lot of new functionality including the new C-Scope Operator Client, vastly improved radar detection and tracking, along with superior sensor fusion. We have even included the new IALA iVEF interface; so we are very pleased to be on schedule!"
The scope of the VTIS21 project for the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) included building and supplying an entirely new operations centre, complete with state-of-the-art integrated operator consoles, running the C-Scope Operator Client, a marine voice communications and GMDSS sub-systems delivered by Frequentis, and a CCTV sub-system delivered by O'Connor. Also included in the delivery is a very impressive video wall from Mitsubishi on which the MPA display the near real-time VTS Traffic Image.
"With over 40 operator consoles and 60 servers this is the largest VTS system Kongsberg Norcontrol IT has ever delivered," added Fred. "Both Kongsberg and MPA are very satisfied that all works were finished according to the original schedule."
With the SAT now complete, the next phase of the project begins in April with a Design Review for Port Operations Control Centre 2 (POCC2), which will be equipped with identical integrated operator consoles, C-Scope Operator Clients and the sub-systems as in P3.
"Installation at POCC2 begins in August of this year," Fred concluded "We anticipate challenges, and we are ready to tackle them."
